Kajaani is a city of Finland. Formerly it was part of the province of Oulu and is the capital of the Kainuu region. It is located in the south-east of Oulujärvi, which dips into the Gulf of Bothnia along Oulujoki. In the city there are 38122 inhabitants and the surface of the city is of 2 264 km² (of which 428 km² are water). Its density is 20.8 hab / km².
